Job Summary

The position is a member of the Global Law Department based in BSAPIC and will report to and assist the Head of Legal & Compliance South-East Asia (SEA) Cluster based within the region in a variety of legal & compliance related matters relating to five (5) diversified businesses, which are BSJ’s subsidiaries, (“DB”) across Thailand, including legal advice to business leaders, contract review, legal advisory, launch of compliance policies and trainings and management and leadership over ongoing compliance initiatives, and conduct BridgeLine investigations. In addition, this role also acts in the capacity of the Regional Lead of the BSAPIC DB Legal & Compliance team.

From 2025 onwards, this role oversees an individual contributor role, which is responsible for supporting legal and compliance related matters for Regional Head Office – Thailand (RHO-T).

Additionally, this role will work closely with BSJ Intellectual Property (IP) team to serve in the capacity of the Regional Lead of the BSAPIC IP team. This position will lead another 3 BSAPIC IP team members, based in China, India and Indonesia, for IP related activities.

Responsibilities

Management and Strategic Support

  • Lead counsels for legal & compliance, trusted advisor, and strategic business partner to RHO-T and five (5) DB companies in Thailand.
  • Providing sound and strategic legal advice to senior management and relevant business stakeholders, including legal implications and legal aspects of business practices, corporate strategies and legal trends (e.g. formulating, suggesting and executing short-term and long-term improvements in legal processes).
  • Involve in management meetings, socializing key legal matters and upcoming initiatives with members of senior management and providing legal advice on all other key initiatives.
  • Establish strong business relationships, trust, and rapport with management of DB companies, as well as diverse corporate and business stakeholders in the broader organization and be able to navigate through and manage uncertainty and different levels of complex stakeholder relationships.
  • Provide ad-hoc risk management support for DB companies, as may be necessary from time to time, including identification and mitigation of risks.
  • Provide ad-hoc review or input in company secretarial matters, where appropriate, and corporate governance related areas.

Legal Support

  • Lead negotiation, drafting, and review of complex commercial agreements across diversified business operations.
  • Advise on corporate, commercial, employment, regulatory, governance, and dispute-related matters.
  • Manage external counsels and key regulatory stakeholders.
  • Develop policies, conduct legal training, and monitor legal developments impacting the business

Compliance Support

  • Support the development, implementation, and execution of local, regional, and global compliance initiatives, including conducting and coordinating trainings.
  • Review compliance and other policies, in particular for legal risks, if any.
  • Support ongoing implementation of existing compliance policies and initiatives, including facilitating operation of existing of compliance policies, conducting refresher training, and launching of initiatives to reinforce key messages.
  • Assist and/or independently conduct, where appropriate, compliance investigations.
  • Interact with key business stakeholders on any compliance matters.
  • Track and manage progress of ongoing compliance initiatives.

Intellectual Property (IP) Support

  • Work closely with Bridgestone Japan (BSJ) IP team to develop and implement comprehensive IP strategies that align with the company’s global IP objectives and protect Bridgestone’s critical innovations, IP assets, and trade secrets.
  • Respond to any invention-related consultations and connect to BSJ IP Prosecution Section.
  • Establish and strengthening of an administration status of trade secret, including develop robust protection protocols, conduct risk assessments, and implement security measures to safeguard confidential corporate information.
  • Manage the identification, protection, and strategic enforcement of intellectual property rights, including domain names and use of social networks across BSAPIC.
  • Collaborate closely with BSJ to ensure alignment of regional IP strategies with global IP directions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external legal counsels, patent and trademark offices, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic guidance to senior management on IP-related risks, opportunities, and potential impact on business growth.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and best practices within BSPIAC.
  • Conduct regular training sessions on IP protection and trade secret management for regional teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law, with minimum Ten (10) years of relevant post-qualification experience either with reputable law firm or a suitable in-house position in a corporate law department (MNC preferred).
  • Excellent academic record from a recognized law school.
  • Substantial experience in structuring, negotiating, documenting, and closing commercial contracts and transactions both externally and within related companies.
  • Excellent communication, drafting and negotiating skills; superior analytical ability and strong general commercial background, creativity, vision, sound judgment in developing and implementing legal solutions and responding to trends in the law.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders is a must. Experience working with people from varied cultural backgrounds is advantageous. 
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team is a must.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and assignments in a time pressure environment is a must.
  • Ability to develop process driven solutions to reoccurring issues is advantageous.
  • High level of integrity, respect for others, persistence, and passion for success
  • Language proficiency: Excellent written and spoken English language skills. Proficiency in Mandarin, Japanese and/or any South-East Asian language would be advantageous but not essential.
