Job Summary
As Legal Counsel, Taiwan, this position plays a leading role in providing legal & compliance oversight across Bridgestone’s business in Taiwan (including Sales & Manufacturing), by ensuring the delivery of proactive, in-depth, business-focused advice and support to the business, as well as implementing initiatives and processes to set standards and reinforce a culture of integrity and ethical behavior. The role is tasked with identifying and mitigating legal risks and implications of all of the business’ transactions, keeping the senior management in all departments of the business informed of developments in laws and regulations that may potentially affect the businesses.
Responsibilities
- Be responsible for setting the goals and direction of the legal function in conjunction with his/her direct line manager and the MD of Bridgestone Taiwan.
- Act as a strategic business partner to the business and provide proactive legal support and advice to the business.
- Oversee all legal & compliance matters in Taiwan.
- Provide legal & compliance advice and support and strategic inputs for all business and improvement initiatives.
- Draft, negotiate, and advise on a variety of commercial transactions, including but not limited to sales, distribution, dealerships, partnerships, supply chain, logistics, manufacturing, sustainability, etc.
- Provide legal advice on a wide variety of legal and compliance issues that may arise in the usual course of business, including but not limited to dispute resolution, employment, debt collection, intellectual property, data privacy, M&A matters, etc.
- Provide ongoing legal & compliance-related training, coaching, and support in BS Taiwan and champion a culture of Ethics & Compliance.
- Draft or review company policies, internal procedures, and other policy-related documents periodically.
- Liaise with public sectors and organizations as required.
- Manage and monitor the Bridgestone whistle-blowing system (BridgeLine) in Taiwan.
- Manage, follow up, and investigate BridgeLine-related matters and collaborate with Regional Compliance on the same as required.
- Assess the businesses’ operations and strategies to identify potential risks and collaborate with all functions to ensure that risk mitigation plans are adequately carried out.
- Actively lead and contribute to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of an effective system of corporate governance & risk management.
- Ensure senior management is informed of regulatory and legislative changes, their obligations under these changes, and how they impact the company.
- Liaise and coordinate with outside counsel to handle relevant legal and compliance matters including but not limited to litigations/mediation/enforcement of court decisions, etc.

- Be responsible for corporate secretarial matters.
- Act as the secretariat of the BOD Meeting and shareholders’ Meeting.
Requirements
- Admitted to practice law in Taiwan (Taiwan lawyer’s license).
- Strong academic results and minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a reputable and recognized law school.
- Minimum 8 years of post-qualification experience either with a major law firm and/or in-house position with an MNC.
Skills
- Substantial experience in structuring, negotiating, documenting, and closing commercial contracts and transactions both externally and within group companies.
- Excellent communication, drafting, and negotiating skills; superior analytical ability and a strong general commercial background; creativity, vision, and sound judgment in developing and implementing legal solutions and responding to trends in the law.
- Experience working with persons from varied cultural backgrounds is advantageous.
- Excellent Chinese and English language skills are essential. (TOEIC: 750 or iBT TOEFL: 75 required)
- Proactive, innovative team player capable of operating as a member of a regional legal function in one of the most recognized global brands in the world.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and assignments in a time-pressured environment.
- Ability to develop process-driven solutions to reoccurring issues.
